New Designer Findings Pricing Policy
aka- What is going on, and how will it affect me?
Designer Findings Only---Designer Findings Only---Designer Findings Only
Any of you that make jewelry and have purchased any silver findings in the last few years know that the silver market has gone way up. The same is true of several, if not all, metals. (I don't track all metals out there, so I'm guessing.) I've heard all sorts of reasons why this has happened, and
each one might be true to one degree or another. I've even heard some people say that they think the market will come back down soon. (Bless their optimistic souls.)
I've heard from several people that they love my work, but they just can't afford it. So, if NeoMythica is to survive, I have to make every effort to become more competitive in my pricing. I've had to rethink how I'm doing business. That means that I have to make some choices...
#1- Make everything weigh a whole lot less.
This would mean that I would have to recarve all of my finding masters and make them thin or hollowed out on the back. Well, I like things to feel substantial and I've been complimented for making things that are.
#2- Make everything in pewter or silver plate.
Pewter is a soft metal. It's great for keychains or figurines, but I don't like it for jewelry. It's a possibility that several of my peers are turning to, but I don't think it's the right choice for me, at least at this time.
As for anything plated... the plating can eventually wear off, sometimes by actual wear, sometimes by body chemistry. Also, you can't buff out anything that is plated. Scratches are there forever.
#3- Lower my prices.
(and not sell wholesale)
This seems to be my best solution.
Most of my clients are wholesale but very few have a store where they are reselling the parts. Most of you are jewelery designers that incorporate my findings into your work. My art becomes a part of yours and it is sold that way. I love it.
What this means is that I've changed my prices to near what I've been selling them for, wholesale. Anyone that wants to can purchase my findings at these prices with no tax ID or minimum order required.
The good news for those of you jewelry designers that have been wholesale clients, your prices aren't much different, and you don't have to order any certain amount. You could restock, piece by piece, as something sells if you want.
For those of you that are store owners, I'm really very sorry. This has not been an easy decision. I have been weighing out my options for almost a year now, but I think it's the best one for the survival of NeoMythica.
